Wife imprisoned for 25 years for murdering her husband in Pofadder

NORTHERN CAPE – The Northern Cape SAPS welcomes the 25 year murder and robbery with aggravated circumstances sentence that was handed down to Suretha Brits (30) in the Upington High Court, recently.

 

The body of Leon Brits (41), was found floating in the swimming pool at one of his properties in October 2020. He sustained several assault and stab wounds.

 

The suspects fled with firearms, a cellphone, Krugerrands, polished diamonds and cash from the premises.

 

Suretha Brits along with Jacques van Vuuren, Amantle Bareki and Enrich Williams were arrested in connection with the incident.

 

Jacques van Vuuren was sentenced 20 years for the murder and robbery with aggravated circumstances, earlier this year.

 

On Monday, 15 November 2021 Suretha pleaded guilty and was sentenced 25 years for murder and further 15 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances. The sentences will run concurrently. The trial of Bareki and Williams and will start on 22 November 2021.

 

The SAPS Management applauded the Investigating team from SAPS Provincial Organized Crime Detectives for the meticulous investigation. The initial investigation and arrests were executed by the late Brigadier Dick De Waal and the docket was later taken over by Col Wilmo Vermeulen and Lt Col Pieter Benade. The officers are commended for the great team work that resulted in the outstanding sentences, to date.
