Western Cape police conduct crime prevention operations leading up to othe festive season

CAPE TOWN – Today the Western Cape Provincial Extortion Task Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in the Khayelitsha precinct and confiscated firearms and ammunition.

The members acted on information about an alleged extortionist operating in Khayelitsha and conducted a search at a premises in Site B Khayelitsha during which a firearm without a serial number and nine rounds of ammunition were recovered. A 44-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of being in possession of a prohibited firearm and unlicensed ammunition.

The members moved swiftly to another address in the same area and searched the premises. A 42-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed ammunition. 

Furthermore the same members were led to another address in the same area of an alleged extortionist, also operating in the Khayelitsha area. The members searched the premises and found a firearm and nine rounds of ammunition. A male suspect, aged 51, was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects will make their court appearances in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court.

In Delft area members of Philippi East arrested three suspects aged 29, 35 and 41 respectively for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. On Tuesday, 08 November 2022 at approximately 10:40, members of Philippi East followed up on information and proceeded to a house in Sarah Baartman Street, Delft. Upon searching the premises they found a 9mm pistol without a serial number, with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Once charged the suspects will make their court appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s court.
