Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa says the national rugby team has in recent days inspired the nation, and brought hope.
He made these remarks on Thursday during the send-off for the three-time world champions who will be participating in the 2023 Rugby World Cup taking place in France.
“As we send you off this evening to the battlefield, you will be making your own contribution towards national unity, national identity and social cohesion. As you fight to defend the World Cup title in France, remember the millions of South Africans.
“Remember where you come from, and the hopes and aspirations you represent. I talk of all the schools and communities you all represent, who follow your matches and are inspired by you,” the Minister said.
He said one of the priorities of government is sports development in schools and at grassroots level.
“Your success has inspired children from around the country to get into sports. Millions of South Africans will cheer you from their homes and fan parks because you represent their aspirations and hope,” Kodwa said.
