Welkom Public Order Police Task Team removes yet another alleged drug dealer from the streets

HARRISMITH – The police cornered an alleged drug dealer in Harrismith town after he was found in possession of illicit drugs and counterfeit cigarettes.

 

On Tuesday, 07 December 2021, at about 07:00, the Welkom Public Order Police Task Team, currently deployed in Harrismith, were following up on information of a notorious drug dealer in Harrismith Central Business District.

 

The members kept observation and spotted the suspect selling drugs to his customers. They surveyed his routine for almost the whole day.

 

On Wednesday, 08 December 2021, approximately at 07:15, the team kept observation until the suspect was spotted again selling drugs to his customers. Unknowingly that he was watched, the team pounced on him catching him red-handed in the act of dealing in drugs.

 

Through co-ordinated team efforts in collaboration with Harrismith police, members successfully cornered and arrested the alleged drug dealer as he attempted to evade arrest.

 

He was searched and found in possession of 20 illicit drugs (Nyaope) wrapped in sachets, nine boxes of counterfeit cigarettes, with an estimated total street value of R3,000 and cash.

 

The 30-year-old suspect from Harrismith is detained and is expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 09 December 2021 to face a charge of dealing in drugs.
