Pretoria: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning regarding thunderstorms that are likely to become severe, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, set to impact Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga starting this afternoon.
According to South African Government News Agency, SAWS highlighted that the thunderstorms will coincide with already saturated soil, potentially bringing an additional 15-30mm of rain. This situation is expected to lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and around bridges. The strong winds accompanying the thunderstorms might cause trees to fall and result in localized service disruptions due to power surges.
Poor driving conditions are anticipated, with water pooling on roads and reduced visibility posing challenges for motorists. The possibility of falling trees due to strong winds also presents a risk. Residents in the affected regions are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
