WATERBERG – The SAPS in Waterberg led by the District Commissioner, Major General Dikeledi Mangena hosted a successful Stakeholder Engagement on Tuesday, 04 October 2022 at the Potgietersrus Comprehensive primary school in Mokopane.

The stakeholders involved included; SAPS Waterberg District Women’s Network and Men for Change, GCIS, Youth Desk, Religious groups from different denominations, School Ambassadors, Mokopane Moral Regeneration, SANCO, Traditional Leaderships, Taxi Associations and Security Companies.

The District Commissioner Major General Dikeledi Mangena supported by District Vispol Head Brigadier Steyn, Lieutenant Colonel Molobela and Captain Molepo from Legal Services rendered the purpose of the gathering which was to mainly  engage the relevant stakeholders on the upcoming Imbizo which will focus on addressing gender-based violence and related crimes in the Waterberg District.

After some challenges were identified, the stakeholders were activated through the assistance of Legal Service and Polokwane GCIS (Government Communication Information System) Maria Ramoshaba and Lilly Mohlosane respectively to help tackle them.

The challenges included root causes of gender-based violence and femicide and other crimes within their respective areas.

All the participants committed to joining forces in the fight against crime and creating a safer society.

The District Commissioner concluded by encouraging strong partnerships and relationships with the local communities in dealing with criminality and they must refrain from vigilantism, to  ensure that community crime prevention based structures such as the CPF, YCOP, Community in Blue Concept are on board.
