The City’s Walkways Replacement Project at its Community Residential Units (CRUs) in Atlantis is progressing well. Officials within the Human Settlements Directorate visited units in Atlantis today, 23 February 2023, to have a closer look at the upgrades. The programme, part of the City’s broader CRU maintenance and upgrade programme, aims to improve the living conditions of residents at affordable housing units across the metro.
'The City is carrying out ongoing maintenance, including the replacement of walkways, at its rental housing in Atlantis.
'Our residents' welfare is the City's priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure their health and safety. The replacement of walkways in Atlantis forms part of the City's enhanced basic services, which aims to create and maintain living spaces for our residents which are secure and comfortable,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.
In the past five years, more than 40 000 CRU tenants have benefitted from R2 billion in maintenance and upgrades. The City has transferred ownership of more than 60 000 of its rental stock units to long-standing tenants to date, with around 7 700 units still available for sale and transfer to eligible tenants. An estimated 160 000 people currently benefit from the affordable rental units operated by the City.
