Vice President Netumbo Nandi – Ndaitwah has emphasised the need to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) without losing sight of the human element that defines the media industry . Nandi – Ndaitwah , in her remarks at the official opening of the Southern African Broadcasting Association ( SABA ) eighth Broadcast and Digital Media Convention on Tuesday , noted the importance of AI in transforming broadcasting and content creation , while maintaining core values such as accuracy , fairness , and credibility . The vice president stressed that while AI is revolutionising broadcasting , technology must serve the public good , urging participants to use AI ethically . ‘ With immense power comes profound responsibility , and your role as broadcasters and journalists is to maintain a critical eye , ensuring technology serves as a tool for truth , not distortion ,’ she said . ah further emphasised the need for Africa to be a leading player in digital innovation . Deputy Minister of Information , Communication and Technology Modestus Amutse highlighted the importance of ICT in expanding broadcast coverage , connecting with audiences quickly , and disseminating content across multiple channels . He further underlined the strategic role of broadcasters in shaping development agendas , promoting democracy , and influencing regional immigration policies . ‘ There is also a need for ethical journalism , using AI to foster public interest and ensure inclusivity and accessibility ,’ he said . Namibian Broadcasting Corporation ( NBC ) Director General Stanley Similo spoke about the role and achievements of public broadcasters in Africa , focusing on partnerships , government funding , and the impact of AI . He also highlighted the importance of public broadcasters in disseminating government information , especially during crises like the COVID – 19 pandemic . The event , organised in coll
aboration with NBC , is taking place in Swakopmund and is being attended by various heads of broadcasters and media professionals across SADC . It aims to explore AI ‘ s applications . The association will also be hosting its 31st Annual General Meeting .
