The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, visited the Valhalla Park housing project to check on its progress yesterday, 25 August 2021. The project is progressing well and the first of its 781 qualifying beneficiaries are expected to receive the keys to their State-subsidised Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes within the next few weeks.
The City’s Valhalla Park housing project, which will be home to 781 beneficiaries, is making steady progress.
‘The first top structure contractor is on site and has completed the first 30 foundations for the units which are expected to be completed at the end of September 2021. Two additional contractors will start during September 2021 with 40 units each. The contractor for the completion of the internal services is also on site.
‘The City will make every effort to ensure that the project stays on track so that the qualifying beneficiaries can receive their homes. The beneficiaries will be informed when their houses are ready for occupation. In the meantime, the Project Steering Committee, which includes representatives for the beneficiaries, is updated on matters related to the project, including its progress.
‘Construction is expected to be completed in four phases, with the last phase completed in late-2023, if all goes according to plan.
‘This housing project will see 781 of Cape Town’s most vulnerable residents become first-time property owners. We will continue to engage with the community throughout this process. Thank you to the City’s project teams for their continued hard work in helping the City provide homes to our qualifying beneficiaries across the metro,’ said Councillor Booi.
Beneficiaries for this project, as is the case for all of the City’s housing projects, were selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
