The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is currently busy with emergency repairs to the pumps from the Molteno Reservoir to the Oranjezicht Reservoir. The pumps experienced technical problems last night and had to be switched off for repair which is still continuing. This resulted in the storage levels in the Oranjezicht Reservoir being lost and the water supply to Camps Bay, Sea Point and the upper parts of Cape Town to Woodstock impacted.
The technical maintenance team worked throughout the night on the pumps supplying water from the Molteno Reservoir to the Oranjezicht Reservoir – this after the pumps experienced problems and had to be switched off to allow the repairs to be done safely. The repairs are still in progress,
This work is currently affecting the water supply to Camps Bay, Sea Point and the upper parts of Cape Town to Woodstock as the water supply to these areas has been switched over to the Eastern High Level Reservoir which is a much smaller reservoir,
During this time, residents in the following areas need to please urgently reduce their water usage until the repairs are completed: Camps Bay, Sea Point and the parts of Cape Town to Woodstock. This will help maintain the water supply from Eastern High Level Reservoir to these areas. The operations maintenance teams are exploring the options of rerouting additional water supply to reduce the impact as far as possible.
The City is monitoring the water supply to these areas and the reservoir's levels closely.
Thank you to our residents for their patience. Every effort is being made to complete the repairs in the shortest possible timeframe.
The City regrets any inconvenience caused but it is imperative to maintain our water supply infrastructure network to benefit its consumers.
