UPINGTON – The South African Police Service in the ZF Mgcawu District welcomed the conviction for murder handed down on 19 November 2021 in the Regional Court of Upington.
On the 17 January 2020, 61-year-old Jan Rooi was stabbed with a sickle on his head and was rushed to hospital.
He was admitted and later transferred to ICU, where he died after a few days later. Detective Sergeant Silingile opened a murder docket and after successful investigation, 45-year-old Hendrick Beukes was arrested.
The accused was found guilty on a murder charge, dolus eventualis and was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment.
