Nelspruit: Two suspects, Wesley Jad¨ Bailly (33) and Fabian Roets (24), were remanded in custody for possession of substances believed to be drugs and Contravention of Medicine and Related Act on Friday, 24 January 2025.
According to South African Police Service, the suspects were arrested by the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, in partnership with Whiteriver K9 and Nelspruit Local Criminal Record Center (LCRC), after receiving information on the Contravention of the Act.
The team’s investigation led to the recovery of controlled medicine and steroids valued at R125,000 in a shop at The Groove shopping complex in Nelspruit. The shop employee Bailly and his friend Roets were arrested on the spot on Thursday, 23 January 2025.
Further investigation led the team to the suspects’ residences where substances believed to be drugs, including Cat, Ecstasy, LSD, Morphine, and dagga valued at R25,000 were recovered.
The suspects appeared in Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 January 2025, and they were both remanded in custody for a formal bail application scheduled for 29 January 2025.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, welcomed the arrest and committed to intensifying the investigation to establish the origin of the medicine, steroids, and drugs. “Our team will do its utmost best to clamp down on the supplier(s) to save the lives of innocent South Africans,” concluded the General.
