Update: Three suspects appear in court for alleged murder of a headman

Three male suspects, Winter Phasha (40), Pontsho Moloma (38), and Karabo Maphanga (25), appeared before the Tubatse Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 23 October 2024, in connection with the murder of 60-year-old headman Setlamorago Thobejane from Magobading village. The matter has been postponed until Monday, 28 October 2024, for a formal bail application.

The victim was shot and killed at his home village in the Mecklenburg policing area on Wednesday, 07 August 2024, at approximately 06:00. Reports indicate that the victim and his daughter were on their way to work and school when the suspects, driving a maroon Toyota Camry without registration plates, allegedly approached and fired several shots, wounding the headman before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, three suspects were arrested; however, a fourth suspect remains at large. The police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of Suprise Mohlala (34),
who may assist in the investigation.
