POLOKWANE - The relentless efforts by the team probing the murder of a 59-year-old farmer, Nikolaas Johannes Steenkamp and house robbery at Maroelafontein farm in Northam, paid off when the fifth suspect was this evening apprehended in the North West Province.
Detectives from Northam and Mogwase police stations conducted a well-coordinated intelligence driven operation after receiving information on the whereabouts of the suspect. The information led the team to a location at Holfontein, North West Province where the suspect, a foreign national, was arrest in his rented room. The other four suspects were arrested earlier today.
The safe that was taken from the scene, was recovered and had already been grinned. Police also recovered a lot of jewellery.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for the cooperation and well-coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the outstanding suspect.
The five suspects, four men and a woman are expected to appear in Northam magistrate court soon facing charges of murder and house robbery.
