Update: Body of missing girl found, suspect arrested

A team consisting of Phuthaditjhaba Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences and Crime Intelligence Units successfully followed information that led to arrest of a suspect following the recovery of the missing seven-year-old girl’s body.

 

On Saturday, 18 September 2021, a seven-year-old girl of Phahameng section in Tlholong Township near Kestell went missing.

 

She was last seen accompanying her friend of the same age.

 

A friend alleged that they met a certain known man in the area who gave them five rand and asked her to walk with him.

 

She never returned home and the man could not be traced as police and community looked all over for him, even near the graveyard and neighbouring farms with no success.

 

On Monday, 20 September 2021, the suspect (25) was traced at HaNchabeng Village in Qwaqwa where he was arrested. He will be formally be charged. The body was recovered in a nearby maize field and will be taken to Government Mortuary for post-mortem to be conducted and establish the cause of her death.
