POLOKWANE – Members of the SAPS Highway Patrol Unit in Limpopo arrested a 37-year-old suspect for alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition while another suspect aged 27, was arrested for dealing in drugs. Both suspects were arrested on Saturday, 03 December 2022 at different locations.
In the first incident, the members received information about a man terrorizing the community of Senwabarwana with a firearm and when following it up, a blue Volkswagen Polo with three occupants was intercepted in at a Filling Station in Senwabarwana. The passenger occupying the front seat was found in possession of a firearm with one magazine containing two live rounds of ammunition and one projectile as well as one SAPS pepper spray. Upon further investigation it was established that the firearm was reportedly stolen in Gauteng in Norkempark.
In a separate incident, the members responded to a complaint of conflict at Polokwane taxi rank where upon arrival, a 27-year-old male suspect was found to be dealing in drugs. A total of 70 sachets of Nyaope and a large amount of money were confiscated for exhibit purposes.
During the crime prevention operations, multiple activities were performed by the Limpopo Highway Patrol Unit, 43 persons and 29 motor vehicles were searched and 32 Shopping Complexes, 57 ATMs and 42 filling stations were visited while 43 motor vehicles were stopped, searched and tested.
The suspects are expected to appear before Senwabarwana and Polokwane Magistrate’s Courts respectively on Monday, 05 December 2022 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunitions as well as the dealing in drugs.
Police investigations are continuing.
