Two suspects bust with unlicensed firearm

FREE STATE – The police in Harrismith have arrested two suspects on separate incidents following stop and search operations which led to unlicensed firearm and other ammunitions on the N3 and Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal.

Apparently on 15 May 2022 at about 16:00, police saw a suspicious looking young man in possession of a carry bag at Montrose shopping complex at the filling station. They approached and searched his bag. They found 25 live rounds inside and the 21-year-old was arrested.

He was further interrogated of which it led police to certain house in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal where they arrested a second suspect (29) who was expecting to receive 25 bullets from the first suspect.

He was found in possession of a firearm, one magazine with eight live rounds. Both suspects were detained. They are expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate court on Tuesday, 17 May 2022 facing charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions.

The second suspect will also be expected to appear before Bergville Magistrate court soon.

“The proliferation of firearms and ammunitions has to be stopped and the only person who can do that is the patriotic citizen of this country by working together with the police. I applaud the members for excellent work they executed”, said the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane.
