Two suspects arrested with unlicensed firearm and bags of dagga

On 27 June 2021 at about 19:40, Harrismith Highway Patrol members were patrolling the R74 conducting stop and search near the entrance of Sterkfontein Dam when they stopped a red sedan with GP registration.

The vehicle with two males was coming from Bergville in KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng. The police officials searched both persons and the vehicle.

They found a Vector Parabellum firearm with one magazine and sixteen rounds in the car. The serial number on the firearm was filed off.  Further search led to the discovery of 51 bags of dagga weighing 233.7kg to an estimated street value of above R200 000.

Both suspects were arrested and the vehicle seized for transportation of dagga.

The two suspects aged 37 and 40 are expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrates’ court on Tuesday 29 June 2021 on charges of possession of an  unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in dagga.
