On Tuesday, 05 October 2021 members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations in Basboom Street, Delft South where trio crimes are prevalent, when they stopped a vehicle and searched the occupants of the vehicle. Two of the occupants, aged 28 and 30 were found in possession of zip guns with ammunition.
In an unrelated matter three suspects aged 21, 24 and 26 handed themselves over to Nyanga police on Monday, 04 October 2021. The trio was charged with the murder of a 38-year-old man after they stabbed him when they had an argument on Sunday, 03 October 2021. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to death due to the extent of his injuries.
Meanwhile a 19-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of hijacking after an e-hailing driver received a request to do a pickup in Saki Mthembu Street in Victoria Mxenge, Philippi. The driver stopped at the address and was approached by suspects who dragged him out of the vehicle and fled the scene with the vehicle, bank cards and cash. The suspect made a court appearance in Athlone Magistrates court today.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrate’s court respectively on the mentioned charges.
