Two suspects arrested in Koppies for possession of suspected stolen copper cable

KOPPIES – Two males were arrested while transporting copper cable in Koppies on Tuesday, 23 November 2021.

 

The members attached to Koppies SAPS followed up information about a suspicious truck transporting illegal items on the R82 road. The members spotted a white truck with a GP registration number on the identified route.  The truck was stopped and a search was conducted.

 

The driver was requested to open the back of the truck, instead he started negotiations by offering the members money. However, the members insisted that he must open the truck.  He gave up and opened the truck.  Bundles of copper cables were found in the back of the truck resulting in the arrest of the driver and one male passenger while the third passenger managed to evade arrest.

 

A white 1 ton truck and copper cables were seized by the police. The copper cables are suspected to have been stolen in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape. The duo will be charged for contravening the Immigration Act, for possession of suspected stolen property (copper cables) and driving without a driver’s license. They are expected to appear in Koppies Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 24 November 2021.
