Orange Farms: Two suspects were arrested for possession of illegal firearms during a high-density crime prevention operation conducted by police in the areas of Orange Farms and Poortjie, south of Johannesburg. The operation, which took place on Friday, 24 January 2025, aimed to curtail criminal activities in the region.
According to South African Police Service, the arrests occurred when a suspicious vehicle with two occupants was stopped during a vehicle checkpoint. Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, police discovered two illegal firearms and live ammunition. The confiscated items included a hunting rifle and a fly wheel 38 special, along with the ammunition.
The operation led to the immediate arrest of the suspects, who are now facing charges of possession of illegal firearms and live ammunition. Brigadier MJ Manamela, the Station Commander of Orange Farms SAPS, expressed gratitude towards the officers involved in the operation, highlighting their dedication and hard work. Brigadier Manamela emphasized that illegal firearms are a significant concern in the Orange Farms precincts, as they are frequently used in crimes and murders.
The suspects are scheduled to appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court, where they will face the charges against them.
