MPUMALANGA – Two SAPS sergeants, Ngwazi Agrippa Ngwanyama (48) and Isaack Victor Sambo (39) stationed at Pienaar police station appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrates’ Court today where they were released on R2000 bail each.
The accused were arrested earlier today by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Nelspruit for corruption.
It is alleged that on 26 September 2021, the duo demanded R10 000 from the suspect who was arrested for drunk driving in order for him to be released. The suspect was already issued with free bail from the police station. The alleged suspect phoned his girlfriend who managed to raise R2000 and deposited the money into his account. The two police officials took him along in a police vehicle to a mall to withdraw the cash. He was also ordered to pay back the airtime voucher that he used to call his girlfriend. The incident was reported to the Hawks for investigation which resulted in the arrest of the accused.
The case was postponed to 4 July 2022 for them to appear at the Nelspruit Serious Commercial Crime Court.
