NELSPRUIT – Two minors, both aged 15 are due to appear before court for alleged murder. The two separate incidents, which are apparently related to domestic violence, are said to have occurred on Friday, 13 August 2021, at Bushbuckridge and Ngondwana respectively.
According to the reports, the incident at Bushbuckridge took place in the evening. It is alleged that a 65-year-old man was at home with his wife together with their two children. A scuffle is said to have ensued between the parents where the wife reportedly left the house thereafter. The man was then stabbed allegedly by one of their daughters. The man was then taken to hospital but was unfortunately certified dead upon arrival.
The matter was reported to police in Bushbuckridge where a murder case was opened and the 15-year-old teenage boy was arrested and charged accordingly in collaboration with the Probation Officers hence his appearance before the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile the incident in Ngodwana occurred on the said day also in the evening at Elandshoek and it is reported that police as well as the paramedics were notified of the horrific scene and upon arrival they found the lifeless body of a 49-year-old man lying in the street with multiple injuries. He was certified dead by the medical personnel. Police at Ngodwana opened a murder case and immediately began with their investigation. The man’s nephew, aged 15 was arrested and charged as the suspect. This was done in collaboration with the Probation Officers as the suspect is a minor hence his appearance before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 August 2021.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga has urged members of the public to work together with the police and other structures of government to address Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Violence in particular.
