Two arrested for tempering with infrastructure

Two suspects arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and tempering with infrastructure in the Navalsig area.

 

On Thursday, 14 October 2021 at about 07:00 Navalsig police received information on a suspicious movement of unknown people in the Transnet yard.

 

Police reacted to the information and on arrival found one suspect busy cutting the copper cables and putting it in the bag.  Upon seeing police approaching, one of the suspects fled on foot but police gave a chase and arrested him.

 

Members found 50 meter long copper cable valued at approximately R7 400-00.  The two suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and tempering with infrustructure.

 

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane sends a stern warning to similar perpetrators, that they will meet full night of the law, she also cautioned the scrap metal dealers in the province to comply with regulations prescribed under second hand goods. The tempering with any infrastructure is regarded as a very serious crime affecting the economy of the state.
