NELSPRUIT - Two suspects appeared at the Emalahleni Magistrate's Court today, 13 July 2022 for various charges including, hijacking, possession of suspected stolen property as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.
According to the information, on Monday night, 11 July 2022 around 23h00 members of crime prevention from Witbank followed up on information regarding an incident which occurred on 25 June 2022 during the time when the driver of a grey Toyota Corolla stopped next to the N12 Road to relieve himself. The suspects then allegedly hijacked him of his car.
The members were led through investigation into a house in Klarinet, Witbank. Upon arrival at the house, they found the two suspects in possession of the hijacked vehicle, they also went on to search and found suspected stolen properties, such as a chainsaw, water pump and three toy guns. The suspects were then arrested hence their court appearance today. Police also discovered that the suspects were not having proper documentation to be in South Africa and members are working in collaboration with the department of Home Affairs to ascertain their status in the country.
The case against Nelson Mudavanhu (32) and Takuya Jonali (19) was postponed until 20 August 2022 for further investigation meanwhile the suspects were remanded in custody.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the sterling work done by members as they arrested the two suspects as well as recovered the vehicle that was previously hijacked. "We hope that the breakthrough will also assist in solving other outstanding cases around the Witbank area and the surroundings" said the General.
