TSANDI—Selma Kadhila, Chairperson of the Tsandi Village Council, has formally requested the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to consider upgrading the village’s status to that of a town council. According to Kadhila, the appeal was made during the third Tsandi Annual Trade Fair and Expo that took place on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kadhila pointed out that the village merits an upgrade as its population has seen growth, and its economy has expanded since Tsandi was designated a village council in 2015. In response, Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, laid down certain criteria for achieving town council status.
Uutoni stated that to be upgraded to a town council, the village council and the community must collaborate effectively. He emphasized that residents should promptly fulfill their municipal service payments. Such timely payments would enable the council to reinvest in the further development of Tsandi. The Minister also advised the leadership of the Tsandi Village Council to set aside political differences in order to achieve their goal of an upgrade to town council status.
