NORTH WEST – Linda Gilbert Matunda (63) appeared in the Klerksdorp Regional Court for sentencing on a charge of fraud on 29 November 2021.
Matunda was one of the two suspects arrested on the 02 December 2011 after a service provider had approached the department requesting an update on the progress of a tender bid process worth R9 million rand. However she approached the Hawks when the official wanted money to influence the panel to award her the tender.
A waylay investigation that put in motion by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team and two officials from Traffic Department were arrested for soliciting money from a service provider.
They were subsequently released on R5000 bail each when they appeared in court same day of their arrest. Matunda pleaded guilty on the charge and was sentenced to five years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years with conditions. His co-accused was cleared on all charges.
