Tip-off leads to the apprehension of two suspects after they were allegedly found in possession of tower batteries

POLOKWANE - The collaborative efforts through partnership policing between the police and the community yielded positive results following the apprehension of two suspects in Siloam policing precinct after they were allegedly found in possession of tower batteries and cutting equipment valued at R120000-00 on Friday 09 September 2022.

Police received information from a community member about two suspects who were travelling from Musina in possession of four (4) large stolen tower battery and that they were intending to collect the other three in Siloam policing area.

A tactical joint intelligence driven operation was executed by the Musina and Thohoyandou Crime Intelligence Units together with the Siloam police to monitor the movement of the suspects.

Before collecting the tower batteries in Siloam policing area, the suspects were stopped while driving along the public road. They were searched and police subsequently found four tower batteries and cutting equipment.

The suspects failed to disclose their origin and were immediately nabbed for possession of suspected stolen properties. The suspects are likely to be linked with additional charges as the preliminary probe indicate that they could be responsible for a series of theft of tower batteries in the Vhembe District.

The origin of the batteries will be determined by the unfolding police investigations.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Siloam Magistrate court on Monday 12 September 2022 facing charges of possession of stolen property.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has hailed the apprehension of these suspects and has appreciated the willingness of community members to continuously assist the police in the fight against crime.
