The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the work done by members at Balfour after arresting three alleged male peddlers, aged between 26 and 41. The three were reportedly found in possession of drugs worth almost R40 000 during their arrest on Friday, 18 March 2022 around 16h00.

Reports indicate that police at Balfour received information through the intelligence structure. The information outlined that there were certain individuals that were coming from Gauteng using public transport and were heading to Standerton and Volkrust respectively where they were going to travel via Balfour. The details were then followed up whereby a covert operation was planned and carried out on the said day.

The three suspects were then identified by the members and busted as they waited to hitch-hike to their destinations. They were reportedly found with the suspected drugs, one with 200 Madrax pills worth R10 000 in street value whilst the other with 230 sachets of Nyaope worth about R8000 in street value meanwhile the third man was found in possession of 530 sachets worth at about R 21200 in street value.

The suspects were immediately arrested and each charged for dealing in drugs. They are due to appear at the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 facing the said charges.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has thanked members for their relentless efforts in getting rid of drugs in the society. “We urge and encourage members of the community to report more of such activities like these ones so that the law can deal decisively with peddlers before drugs can reach the society” urged the General.
