The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, lauded the efforts of police members for their vigilance and tenacity in bringing the perpetrators of justice to book. Laingsburg police followed up on information indicating an identified foreign national dealing in drugs. They monitored the address for some time and ultimately approached the address in 2nd Avenue Goldnerville on Wednesday, 04 September 2024 at around 12:40, armed with a search warrant. The police members confiscated a consignment of cannabis and in the process arrested the adult Somalian foreign national for dealing in cannabis. In an unrelated incident police members followed up on information pertaining to criminal cases where firearms were reported as stolen in Woodstock earlier in the week. The information took the members to a residence in Primrose Street, Athlone where they searched the premises, resulting in the confiscation of a 357 Magnum revolver with ammunition and products, which the sus pect could not account for. They detained the 29-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of presumed stolen property. Simultaneously, another group of police members entered a house in Elands Street, Athlone where they searched the premises and occupant. They found a number of personal items as well as a Musgrave Rifle with ammunition. They detained the 20-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of presumed stolen property. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Laingsburg and Athlone Magistrates' courts on the mentioned charges. Source: South African Police Service
