Members attached to Lusikisiki K9 Unit and Mthontsasa crime prevention arrested three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Upper Hlabathi locality, Mthontsasa area last night.
Police followed up on intelligence driven information and searched premises in Mthontsasa locality and recovered two shotguns, R5 rifle and 60 live ammunition. Three suspects, 39, 46 and 58 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearms will be taken to ballistics in order to check whether they were used in a commission of crime.
The suspects are due to appear in the Flagstaff Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 October 2021 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition soon.
OR Tambo Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntandane applauded the members for their efforts. “My sincere gratitude to the members involved in these arrests, more especially the community members for sharing information with the police. A single illegal firearm confiscated from the hands of the criminals helps to prevent many lives and violent crimes that could have happened,” he said.
