ORANJEVILLE – Three suspects aged between 34 and 23, have been arrested in Oranjeville for an alleged ATM bombing which took place in Oranjeville, while the fourth suspect is still on the run.
A member attached to the Oranjeville SAPS Client Service Centre (CSC) alleged that on Friday, 13 May 2022 at about 02:03 he was passing near one of the houses in Metsimaholo location, Oranjeville when he noticed that an ATM has been bombed. He immediately conducted an investigation and received information from a community member who alleged that he saw three unknown males at about 02:03, bombing the ATM and fled the scene on foot taking the direction of Zonke Section in Oranjeville. The member mobilized different units in the District who swiftly responded to the information. On their way to Oranjeville SAPS, they came across a suspicious vehicle driving at high speed on the R716 towards Deneysville. The units made a U-turn and chased the vehicle up until between Phomolong and Refengkgotso. The occupants of the vehicle jumped out of the vehicle and members managed to apprehend three suspects. They had blue ink stains on their clothes and hands. One suspect managed to evade arrest.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a commercial explosive has been utilized to bomb the ATM. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
The trio will appear before Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 May 2022.
Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Major General Moses Makubo applauded the members and community for a quick activation in order to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and placed behind bars.
