Three robbery suspects nabbed and delivery van loaded with cigarettes recovered

POLOKWANE - The Police in Sebayeng outside Mankweng have arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 44 after they allegedly committed an armed robbery at one of the retail stores at Ga-Dikgale on Thursday, 16 February 2023.

Four suspects allegedly entered the Pep Store in a Shopping Complex at Ga Dikgale in Sebayeng policing precinct between 09: 00 and 10:00 in the morning, pointed the employees with firearms and demanded money.

It is alleged that the suspects after realizing that the employee did not have the Safe keys, they then fled the scene driving in a white Toyota Hilux with unknown registration numbers.

The Police were informed and whilst making a followed up, they received another information about a delivery van that was just robbed of cigarettes while delivering at Sebayeng Supermarket. The description given matched the one of the suspects who had just attempted to rob the retail store.

A joint operation comprising SAPS Airwing, Tactical Response Team, SAPS Sebayeng and CPF, Mighty Security as well as Jumbo Towing Service was activated and searches were conducted subsequently two male suspects were accosted and arrested in Makotopong village near Mothimako High School and a firearm with ammunition was confiscated. One more suspect was tracked down and arrested at a Filling Station in Mmontong village outside Seshego and a white Toyota Hilux and 30 boxes of cigarettes were recovered. One of the suspects managed to evade arrest and is still at large.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for the well-coordinated operation which led to these arrests.

The suspects are expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Monday 20 February 2023 for robbery and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.
