Three hijacked vehicles recovered and one suspect arrested

KWAZULU-NATAL – On 07 November 2022, the Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Ndwedwe Visible Policing, Umhlali K9 Unit and private security companies arrested a 32-year-old suspect for hijacking. 

It is reported that the members were conducting an investigation at Ndwedwe area when they spotted three motor vehicles including an ambulance driving at a high speed. The members attempted to intercept the vehicles however, the suspects fired shots at the police. The suspects abandoned their vehicles and fled into the nearby bushes.

Police discovered that the ambulance and two other light vehicles were hijacked. Umhlali K9 members managed to apprehend one suspect who alighted from one of the vehicles that was hijacked at the Pavilion mall in March this year. 

The arrested suspect will be charged for hijacking and he is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 09 November 2022.
