Thousands of commuters enjoying MyCiTi N2 Express daily

The MyCiTi N2 Express has transported over 52 000 passengers since the reinstatement of the service on 19 February 2022, with around 3 000 passengers making use of the service every week day. The N2 Express has only been reinstated for seven weeks and already more than 18 400 myconnect cards, used to commute on the service, have been purchased by commuters from both Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.

‘The reinstatement of the MyCiTi N2 Express service has certainly been the highlight of the year so far. Thousands of residents from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha now again have access to safe, reliable and affordable public transport that connects them directly to the city centre and the rest of the MyCiTi network. This gives me a sense of hope and excitement for the possibilities MyCiTi can bring to the future of transport in Cape Town,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City has received reports from commuters who are very relieved and grateful about having the service up and running again. To date, a total of 18 438 myconnect cards have been sold at the MyCiTi Mitchells Plain station and Kuyasa kiosk.

‘Commuters need a myconnect card to travel on the service, thus, the fact that so many cards have been bought is an indication that commuters value the N2 Express and that they deem this as a viable alternative to travel to the CBD,’ said Councillor Quintas.

The entire fleet of 34 buses has been made available to the N2 express service since 19 March 2022. Buses are allocated to operations on a daily basis based on their availability and increased passenger demand.

‘Residents are desperate for a quality public transport service that they can rely on. I understand that the demand for the N2 Express buses is high and I want to assure commuters that we will do all we can to meet the demand. I also want to urge residents to please be on the lookout for and report any vandalism of bus shelters and other MyCiTi infrastructure as we are trying to repair and replace the damaged shelters to benefit the communities we service,’ said Councillor Quintas.

The N2 Express buses travel to the Civic Centre station in the Cape Town CBD via the N2 freeway. The fleet includes a combination of 12-metre low-floor buses and 18-metre low-floor buses, which have been serviced and prepared for operations, and bus drivers recruited and trained.

Commuters can find the time schedules and latest information about the routes on our website at www.myciti.org.za, or phone the Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63. The TIC is available 24/7.
