The swift response leads to the detention of suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition

The commitment of disciplined police officers were rewarded when they detained two suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents.

An integrated law enforcement deployment, led by Atlantis crime prevention unit, pursued information of suspects in possession of firearms on Sunday, 01 September 2024. The members approached the identified area in Bunting Circle, Robinvale on foot. The suspects became aware of the presence of the police members and fled. The members gave chase and apprehended a 21-year-old man who was found in possession of a firearm with ammunition. They detained the man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police members of Maitland Flying Squad were busy with patrols in Hanover Park in the early hours of Tuesday, 03 September 2024. They responded to information following a recent shooting incident and approached a house in Athry Walk in Hanoverpark. The members entered the residence where they found a man who fitted the descriptio
n of the person of interest. They search the man and found him in possession of a 7.65 pistol with ammunition. They detained the 34-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Atlantis and Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
