The quick response by Atlantis police leads to arrest of suspect after shooting incident

WESTERN CAPE – The quick response by members of the Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit led to the recovery of a .38 special revolver and the arrest of a 25-year-old male after a shooting incident was reported yesterday morning 01 March 2022.

The members responded to a complaint of a shooting in Fiskaal Street and on arrival at the scene, the community pointed out the direction in which the suspect ran. The suspect was apprehended at a premises in Hornbill Street, Atlantis with the firearm in his possession.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Atlantis Magistrates court on possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges.

In an unrelated matter members of Gugulethu police arrested a 31-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in NY82 Gugulethu last night 01 March 2022. The members were busy with stop and search operations when the suspect was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition.

The suspect will make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates court on Thursday 03 March 2022.
