Minister Nathi Mthethwa has noted the excitement of South African football followers regarding tonight’s semi-final first leg match featuring Kaizer Chiefs against Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League competition.
In congratulating Chiefs for fighting their way to this advanced stage of the competition, Minister Mthethwa said, “On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, I wish to convey our good wishes to the Kaizer Chiefs family on their historic mission of fighting for a place in the final of this prestigious competition. In a year when a South African occupies the high office of CAF Presidency, any success by a local team at this level goes a long way towards establishing the country as a force to be reckoned with in African football”.
In wishing Kaizer Chiefs well, as the only remaining local team at this stage of the competition, we look forward to a football season to remember, particularly in a year where we are desperately in need of good news to counter the tragic circumstances brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.
