The Gauteng police continues unabated to fight crime in the province

In an effort to ensure that communities feel safe and protected as mandated by the Constitution to prevent, combat and investigate crime, maintain law and order and bring to book those who disregard the law, the Gauteng police conducted various crime combating operations throughout the province dubbed “Operation O Kae Molao”.

It is led by the SAPS under the command of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela with the support of various law enforcement agencies such as the Traffic Department, Metro Police Department, Immigration from Department of Home Affairs, Community Police Forum, Tracker and Fidelity.

Parallel to the operation, the Social Crime Prevention and Corporate Communication and Liaison Units together with Community in Blue, also take to the streets to educate the communities about Gender Based Violence & Femicide and also encourage them to report any GBVF related crimes.

This weekend the operation saw more than 800 suspects being arrested throughout the province for different crimes including rape, sexual offences, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of suspected stolen property, illegal trading in liquor, dealing in drugs and driving under the influence of liquor. Among the arrested there were also undocumented persons.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various Magistrates’ Court on 15 November 2021.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela welcomed the successes and appreciated all the teams involved in ensuring that crime is reduced in the province. “With this weekly operations, we are going to ensure that there are more boots on the ground and criminals have no space to operate. Those who commit crime, the arm of the law is too long and they will surely be arrested and prosecuted,” said Mawela.

He further condemned the crimes of Gender Based Violence and Femicide, especially the incident where body parts believed to be of a human being where discovered in the refrigerator at Protea Glen. The 28-old-man was arrested for murder.

The public is urged to work together with the police in the fight against the scourge of crime by reporting any form of criminal activities on the Crime Stop Number 08600 10111 or alternatively leave anonymous tip-offs on MySaps App that can be downloaded on any smart phone.
