Teacher appeared in court for Temporary Employee Relief Scheme fraud

LIMPOPO - Maropeng Justin Mashala (30) appeared before the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court today, 13 February 2023 in connection with Temporary Employee Relief Scheme fraud.

It is alleged that Mashala who is a professional teacher employed by the Department of Education in Limpopo Province applied for TERS from the Department of Employment and Labour. It is further alleged that the accused used fake particulars to apply for TERS, as a result the department suffered a loss of R7 098-00.

The matter was initially investigated by the Special Investigating Unit and later referred to the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.

The accused was arrested this morning and granted a free bail. His case was postponed to 22 February 2023
