PARKTOWN – Three car hijacking suspects who are aged between 21 and 35 were arrested by the police in Orange Farms on Thursday, 16 December 2021 soon after they had hijacked the victim.
The suspects who were also found with an unlicensed firearm suspected to have been used during the commission of the hijacking are expected to appear at the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 December 2021 facing charges of car hijacking, kidnapping, possession of hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The victim went to the police on the evening of 16 December 2021 to report that he was hijacked by three armed men who drove away with his car and other valuables. Police responded promptly and went to look for the suspects. A car matching the description was spotted at the petrol station and police accosted the suspects. Upon searching the car and the suspects, police found an unlicensed firearm. The suspects were identified by the victim and the hijacked vehicle was recovered.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the police officers who responded promptly to arrest the suspects and recover a hijacked vehicle.
Police are urging motorists to be cautious and vigilant when they are driving at night and to ensure that doors and windows are locked at all the times.
