Swift response by Khayelitsha SAPS members led to arrest of suspect for attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition

The immediate response by Khayelitsha SAPS members turned out to be successful when they arrested an adult male for the possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and attempted murder.

On Sunday, 29 September 2024 at about 02:30, members were busy with crime prevention patrols when they received information about a possible hijacking of a Toyota Quantum in Ntandazo Street, Site B, Khayelitsha. The members proceeded to the identified street and upon arrival they spotted a white Toyota Quantum and a silver Grey Avanza. They then saw a male person throwing away an object that resembled a firearm. The members picked up a 9mm Norinco firearm with four rounds. When they came closer there were five males in argument about transportation of passengers. A 25-year-old victim reported that he was shot by the suspect in his right leg. The members arrested the male person who threw the firearm on the ground for charges of attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possessi
on of ammunition.

Once charged, he will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
