PARKTOWN – Police officers from Soweto Flying Squad responded promptly after receiving information about a business robbery in progress and arrested two suspects still inside the shop with robbed items in their possession in Freedom Park, Soweto, on Monday, 21 March 2022 at approximately 14h10.
Members from Soweto Crime Intelligence received information about suspects that were robbing a chain store in Freedom Park and immediately activated Soweto Flying Squad members who swiftly proceeded to the scene.
Upon seeing the police, three suspects ran on foot while two were apprehended inside the shop. The arrested suspects were found with an unlicensed firearm and items taken during the robbery.
The two suspects were arrested and charged with business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects that escaped from the scene.
Gauteng Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Girly Mbele commended members from Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad for responding swiftly to information that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were also linked to other cases where chain stores were robbed. They are expected to appear at Protea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 23 March 2022.
