Swift arrest of two suspects after armed robbery

GQEBERHA – Last night, 14 March 2022 at about 23:00, a tavern in Yeko Street, Zwide was closed and the owner busy locking up when three (3) unknown armed suspects approached him outside. They gun pointed him and demanded cash and valuables. The owner fled into the premises and managed to lock himself into a secure area, while the robbers proceeded to ransack the main area. They took two (2) TV’s, a container with loose cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash money. They also attempted to steal the owner’s Mercedes Benz vehicle, but bumped it into a pillar on the premises, after which the left the vehicle and fled on foot.

Members of the Kwazakele Vispol Task Team responded to the robbery and found two (2) of the suspects walking in a street close to where the robbery took place, carrying a TV. On searching them, they confiscated the container with cigarettes as well as the stolen TV.

The suspects, both males aged 25 and 26 years old, were arrested for possession of stolen property, but with further investigation might also be linked and charged with the robbery.

An Armed Robbery case was opened at Kwazakele SAPS.
