On Monday, 2022-06-06, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad followed up on information with regards to a murder that took place in Lwandle area. The vehicle which was mentioned in the information was pulled over in Lingelethu-West area. The members searched the occupants and found a firearm on one of them.

The serial number of the firearm was removed. Three suspects between the ages of 22 and 38 were arrested and detained at Harare SAPS for murder, possession of prohibited firearm and possession of presumed stolen property. The suspects will appear in Khayelitsha court on Wednesday, 2022-06-08 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter, on 2022-06-06 at around 17:30, members attached to Stellenbosch SAPS arrested a 37-year-old man for possession of an imitation firearm, drugs and stolen property at a farm near Die Boord, Stellenbosch. The members were doing crime prevention duties when they received information that a person was in possession of a firearm at the mentioned address. They went to the address and in the shack they found the suspect. The members found an imitation firearm under the floor in a hole. They also asked the suspect if he had papers for the bicycle that was in his possession which he didn’t have. Further probe led to the confiscation of a newspaper with tik in it and also a black bag with mandrax, money and a tik lollie. The suspect will appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates court on Wednesday, 2022-06-08 on the mentioned charges.
