Suspects sought for double murder

POTCHEFSTROOM – Police in Mmabatho launched a manhunt following an incident wherein two persons were found dead at Makhubung Village just outside Mahikeng.

 

It is alleged that the police were called to a crime scene at about 08:00 on Thursday, 02 December 2021, after two partially burnt bodies, believed to be of Lesotho nationals, were spotted by a passer-by on the road between Makhubung and Ga-Seipone Section. According to information received, a group of people driving in a white bakkie arrived at a cattle post together with one of the victims on Wednesday afternoon, 01 December 2021. The victim was removed from the bakkie and assaulted with sjamboks by a group of males. The latter then drove away with the same bakkie and later returned with the second victim who was also assaulted.

 

Subsequently, the suspects allegedly put both victims in the bakkie and drove away with them. They were later dumped along Makhubung and Ga-Seipone Section and thereafter set alight following apparent stock theft related accusations. The victims are still unidentified and no arrest has been effected however, police investigation continues.

 

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms. He reiterated that members of the community should refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow justice to take its course.
