Suspects due in court for the possession of ammunition, state property and possession of endangered sea species

WESTERN CAPE – Police operations by our respective units to ensure that offenders are brought to book in this province, resulted in the arrest of suspects on various serious charges.

 

On Monday, 17 January 2022, at around 19:30, police members of ‘Operation Restore’ were busy with stop and search operations in Langa, when they responded to intelligence driven information. They spotted an unknown man riding on a bicycle, that fitted the description, and searched him, upon which they found four 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect was accompanied to his residence where they successfully confiscated three air rifles, ammunition, and a uniform which belong to the South African National Defence Force. The 57-year-old male was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of state property.

 

In an unrelated matter, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted on Monday, 17 January 2022. Police members of the National Intervention Unit, assisted by Fish Hoek police, pursued information relating to a consignment of abalone being transported in a white VW Polo. The vehicle was spotted on the N2 highway and stopped near to Borchard’s Quarry off-ramp in the direction of Somerset West. Upon searching the vehicle, several bags, containing 599 abalone units were confiscated. A 26-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of endangered sea species.

 

Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court to face their respective charges.
