Suspects arrested in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Police members went the extra mile on Friday (2021-09-03) when they arrested suspects found to be in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

 

Police members posted in the Community Service Centre in Atlantis, received information about a firearm being stored at an identified address. The information was operationalized and the members searched the address and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 49-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

 

In an unrelated case police members of Samora Machel received a tip off of armed men seated in a barbershop near to the taxi rank, close to Oliver Tambo Drive. Upon arrival they searched the customers and confiscated a firearm and ammunition. Two males aged 20 and 22 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

 

Meanwhile police members were involved in a high speed chase, when a suspect fled the scene upon arrival of the patrol vehicle in King George Street in Elsiesriver. Along the way patrol vehicles from different stations joined the chase in a bid to stop the suspects which resulted in a patrol vehicle overturned. A 29-year-old man and 42-year-old female was eventually apprehended in Koeberg Road, Milnerton and arrested when found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The injured police were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

 

The arrested suspects are due to appear in the Atlantis, Athlone and Cape Town Magistrate courts respectively on Monday on the mentioned charges.
