Suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – Police members arrested two suspects after they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Monday, 15 November 2021.

Members of Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit received information about a person in possession of a firearm at Mariana Court in Heideveld.

The information was operationalised and as the members approached the identified location, they spotted a man who fitted the description. The suspect dropped an object in full view of police members upon which they recovered a 9mm Vector pistol with ammunition. A 29-year-old man was arrested and detained.

In an unrelated matter police members of Nyanga were busy with routine patrols when they received information of a suspicious male standing on Dube Street in Nyanga. As the patrol vehicle patrolled the area, they saw an unknown man and searched him. The 30-year-old man was arrested and detained as he was found in possession of 9mm pistol and ammunition for which he had no valid licence to possess.

Once charged, both suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
