NELSPRUIT- Two suspects transporting drugs worth R700 000-00 were arrested last night, Tuesday 18 October 2022 at about 23:00 in Standerton.
Police reacted on a tip-off from a community member and immediately responded.
Standerton K-9 Unit headed to R23 road where they were backed up by local security company.
A white VW Polo Vivo which matched the description of the suspicious vehicle was spotted and police brought it to halt.
Two occupants, a 36-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were the only two occupants in the car.
Police requested to search the vehicle during which luggage containing substances believed to be narcotics were found.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the recovered substances were five small lumps of unpacked crystal meth weighing 491g, one medium lump of unpacked crystal meth weighing 439g and four lumps of unpacked cat weighing 506g.
The duo was immediately arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. The drugs and the vehicle were confiscated for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear in Standerton Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in drugs. Police cannot rule out the possibilities of adding more charges, including contravening of the Immigration Act.
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the members of the community for working closely with the police in the fight against drug dealings, drug trafficking and drug peddling.
